Should you wear an anxiety bracelet?

First of all, there have currently been no scientific studies proving that anxiety bracelets cure anxiety. Now we can go deeper into this topic.
Anxiety bracelets are part of the New Age movement and are an alternative therapy.
The New Age movement got in contact with these bracelets by the Indian yogic culture that focuses on the centers of spiritual power in the human body. They believe that seven wheels within the human body keep turning and regulating the flow of energy in the entire body. Keep a focus on the concept of energy while reading because we are going to explain the importance of this energy in this alternative healing therapy.
There are seven different chakras or energy centers in your body. They are interconnected. These chakras or wheels of energy inside your body, also known as the “Qi,” regulate your physical, mental, and spiritual balance. Each chakra is also associated with a color. We represent the chakras as being aligned vertically through the entire body from root to top.
7 Chakras

Let’s have a quick overview of the 7 chackras:
–The 1st chakra is the root chakra, located bellow genitals, it’s associated with the color red and refers to stability but also to instinct and because of that, it also links to our fight or flight instinct which is often at the center of our attention when we analyze anxiety and panic attacks.
–The 2nd chakra is the sacral chakra, located above genitals. It’s associated with the color orange and links to sexuality and sensuality but also other forms of pleasure.
–The 3rd chakra is the solar plexus chakra, located at the navel, it’s associated with the yellow color and is linked to your emotions and is related directly with your self-esteem.
–The 4th chakra is the heart chakra, located in the chest. It’s associated with the green color and obviously links to love and empathy.
–The 5th chakra is the throat chakra, located in the throat area, it’s associated with the blue color and is linked to communication and expression but also to our ability to understand.
–The 6th chakra is the third eye chakra, located between eyebrows. It’s associated with the indigo color and links to inner perception, imagination, and intuitiveness. The New Age movements believe that the indigo children, who are said to have supernatural abilities, are related to this chakra.
–The 7th chakra is the crown chakra, situated above the crown, it’s associated with the violet color and is linked to spiritual power and consciousness.
Like I previously showed you, each chakra is associated with one of the major organs in your body, and when one or more chakras are blocked, your body experiences an imbalance. This obstruction can lead to stress, anxiety, and depression. The whole idea of wearing anxiety bracelets is to open the blocked chakras again and regain your emotional balance.
3 Different anxiety bracelets

There are several different anxiety bracelets. Let’s focus on the most popular ones: the acupressure bracelets, the magnetic bracelets, and of course, the crystal or gemstone bracelets.
Acupressure bracelet
The acupressure bracelets are said to be only efficient when worn against the skin and focus on acupressure points that are connected to the chakras. These acupressure points are based on the ancient Chinese healing practice of acupuncture. The difference between acupressure and acupuncture is that acupressure is noninvasive, it only puts pressure on the points, while acupuncturists work with needles. It is important to emphasize that even today, acupuncture is still considered a pseudoscience, and there is no scientific evidence of its effectiveness.
Magnetic bracelet
You also have magnetic bracelets. These are part of an alternative therapy called magnetic therapy, which claims to work with the magnetic fields. They claim to alternate the bioenergetic fields, also known as life energy or “Qi,” thanks to the magnets. There is also a movement within this movement that says that those magnets help the blood flow as they affect the iron contained in the red blood cells or hemoglobin.
The claims are that you achieve relief from pain and anxiety. In this case, several scientific studies took place, and all the studies proved that these magnetic bracelets had no positive effect whatsoever on pain and anxiety. Do not get confused with the term magnetic stimulation or TMS, which is the stimulation of the brain’s cerebral cortex to control emotions. TMS actually is a scientific treatment for depression and has nothing to do with the magnetic bracelets.
Crystal and Gemstone bracelets
Let’s talk a bit about Crystal bracelets and Gemstone bracelets now.
First of all, what is the difference? A crystal is a pure material that has a regular geometrical pattern at a molecular level, and a gemstone is a precious stone. Many gems are crystals, but not every crystal is a gemstone. They say that these crystal or gemstone bracelets vibrate. These frequencies interfere with the vibration frequencies of your chakras. The interference takes place within your body when they come in contact.
Now you are asking yourself where this vibration comes from? This vibration is said to come from the energy fields that surround us. As these crystals are high conducts, they are believed to be able to amplify, purify, absorb, and even transform those energies. There are different stones used to make these bracelets. We will focus only on the stones that supposedly have a positive effect on either anxiety, panic attacks, or depression:
–Lava stone is said to work on the root chakra giving positive energy. The general belief is that lava stones, because they are strongly connected with the center of the earth, have a stabilizing effect on the root chakra. This connection is the reason why alternative culture believes in its ability to calm stress and anxiety. To simplify, the power of lava stones comes within the broader concept of the healing power of earth and nature in general.
–Morganite, also known as Pink Beryl. The name comes from the Spanish location of Mogán on the Canary Islands, but you find it mainly in dry locations across Europe, the USA, and India. It works on the heart chakra and is said to be able to block anxious feelings by giving you affective energy. This energy would also be able to prevent panic attacks.
–Rose quartz is mostly from Brazil and works on the heart chakra. It balances your chakras, lowering stress and anxiety.
–Rhodonite has its name from the Greek island of Rhodos. It works on the heath chakra, helping you heal your emotional wounds and regain mental strength.
–Amethyst is a quartz that has its name from the ancient Greeks who thought that wearing it would protect them from intoxication. The translation from ancient Greek would be literally “non-intoxicate.” Now amethyst comes mostly from southeast Brazil. It works on the crown chakra and is said to help to reduce the emotional pain.
–Sodalite also comes mainly from Brazil nowadays. It works on the throat chakra and is told to turn stress and anxiety into calmness and serenity.
–Hematite has its name from the Greek word for blood as a reference to its color due to its high iron content. You can find it mostly in banded iron formations. It works on the root chakra and is said to give balance in your life. This balance is the essential factor to eliminate stress and anxiety.
–Lepidolite comes from the Greek word for scale because of its appearance. You can mostly find lepidolite in Brazil. It works on the crown chakra and the third eyes chakra. It is said to function as an antidepressant and helps you regain serenity.
Cleansing of anxiety bracelets

Important to know if you want to use them is that these anxiety bracelets are also said to need regular cleansing to release the bad energy stored in them over time. A common belief within the New Age movement is that exposure to moonlight cleans the anxiety bracelet. On the other hand, it is not advisable to expose the anxiety bracelet to water or sunlight.
Now that we covered this subject quite exhaustively, let’s face something, there is a big chance that these bracelets are placebos. But that’s not all bad news because if you feel anxious, there is also a big chance that you could use mental support, and placebo is psychological support. The use of a deliberately ineffective treatment releases the potent dopamine or feel-good hormone that is known for lowering depression and nausea. I base this claim on several scientific studies. So I strongly think that belief itself is a way of reducing anxiety.
Now that you are well informed about this subject, if you want to give it a try, you have to go for the real deal and use only quality items to give this treatment a chance. In the end, if you think it will make you feel a bit better, it’s worth a try. Remember, recovery is a journey!
